API Postnuptial Agreement
A postnuptial agreement, also known as a post-marital agreement or postnup, is a contract that a married couple signs to outline how their assets and affairs will be divided in the event of a divorce or separation. It can also establish other obligations for the couple during their marriage, such as maintenance and child support.

  •  A postnup is similar to a prenuptial agreement but is written after a couple is legally married.
  • One common reason for a postnup is to ensure financial security in the event of a divorce.
  • A postnup usually concerns financial assets, but can define anything—from how often in-laws can visit or how a couple will share household chores.
  • You may need or want a postnup if you have children from previous marriages or own a business.
